Maramao
A sofa that is only revealed by the final gesture of connecting the cover to the structure. The sofa grows from the inside, and layer upon layer its shape is slowly defined. The starting point was how to work with an existing structure and similar production processes and at the same time produce a completely different sofa. During this process and by researching into different upholstery techniques I found a possible way to produce smooth shape transitions that in the end resembles an object slowly being covered with snow. In the end the shape of the sofa has very little to do with its original structure and resembles a natural shape that had no other way of existing. The goal was to simplify the production process in terms of time and functionality as well as taking advantage of Cassina’s craftsmanship skills.
